India’s First Hyperloop Test Track: Travel from Delhi to Jaipur in Just 30 Minutes

IIT Madras, in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways, has successfully constructed India’s inaugural hyperloop test track, measuring 422 meters in length. This innovative transportation system has the potential to cover distances of 350 kilometers in a mere 30 minutes, enabling a journey from Delhi to Jaipur—approximately 300 kilometers—in less than half an hour once operational.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced this development on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the importance of government and academic partnerships in advancing futuristic transportation solutions.

The project, which received funding from the Ministry of Railways, is situated on the IIT Madras campus. Expressing his enthusiasm, Mr. Vaishnaw stated, “The first pod of 422 meters will significantly contribute to the advancement of technology. I believe the time has come for the third grant of one million dollars to be allocated to IIT Madras for the continued development of the hyperloop initiative.”

The Railways are preparing to launch the first commercial project soon.

Understanding Hyperloop Technology

Often referred to as the ‘fifth mode of transport,’ Hyperloop is a cutting-edge high-speed transportation system designed for long-distance travel. It enables trains to achieve remarkable speeds by utilizing specialized capsules that travel through vacuum tubes.
